Ten Tips for Meditation & Chanting

From our years of practicing meditation, we have several great tips to share with you. These tips are to help guide you and prevent you from making common mistakes. These may not work for everyone so feel free to experiment and find the techniques that work best for your body, temperament and specific life situation.

1. Practice your meditation in the same place at the same time if possible. 

2. Practice in a clean and calm space. Turn down the lights, burn some incense and light a candle.

3. While chanting, keep your breath slow, deep and steady. 

4. If you feel drowsy or tired, change your sitting position. 

5. Chant the mantra with complete focus and devotion. 

6. Use a 40 day practice to activate and empower your mantra and mala beads. 

7. Use a steady tempo when chanting your mantra. If you get bored change the tempo. 

8. When using mala beads hold them at the level of your navel, heart or forehead.

9. Use only one mantra per set of meditation beads. If you want to chant a different mantra buy some new Buddhist beads.

10. Be compassionate and gentle with yourself. While the techniques of mantra meditation are simple, the mind is stubborn and difficult to change.
